Improve Your Look, Improve Your Outlook

Put your own oxygen mask on before assisting others. The idiom applies to so many different things, but particularly when it comes to improving ourselves in a manner that some consider not being “necessary” but “purely cosmetic”. What’s wrong with that? What’s the deal with the “purely cosmetic?” But, I digress. I so often hear from patients who are plagued by guilt, spending “so much” time or money on themselves with all of the issues elsewhere that need their attention, what gives them the right to put this much effort into themselves?
Self-improvement builds confidence
The desire to feel good about yourself is not something to ignore! Other areas of self-improvement are completely guilt-free: you take a night class to learn a new skill, you take pains to eat right, exercise, see your dentist regularly – why should enhancing your looks be different than doing any of the above?
The fact is: you’re a better mom/dad/husband/wife/employee/boss/person in general when you feel great about yourself. Sure, there are internal things you love about yourself; maybe you have a great sense of humor. Maybe you’re a great cook. Maybe your professional experience makes you stand above the crowd of other job applicants. But face it – when you walk into that room – whatever room it may be – and OWN it because you feel confident, gorgeous and strong, you can do anything, accomplish anything, and give your full attention to the matters at hand without holding back.
Take care of yourself first
Options are available for every level of enhancement: for some, non-surgical treatments with prescription-strength skin care products, dermal fillers, wrinkle relaxers, chemical or laser skin resurfacing are perfect, and give just the right level of rejuvenation. Others opt for the more dramatic effects achieved with a face lift, liposuction, breast augmentation or tummy tuck. Whatever your choice, the choice is yours, and yours alone!
It’s not selfish to take care of yourself first! You’ll be better at everything you do and everyone around you will benefit.
