3 styles of bikini laser hair removal

A few days ago I had a mother and daughter come into to the office for a simultaneous laser hair removal consultation. They were both interested in removing the hair from their underarms and the bikini area. When I asked them what style each preferred, they were a bit surprised. They did not know that there were multiple “styles” of bikini laser hair removal. (View before and after photos of laser hair removal.) Typically, when the patients come to the office for a consultation I do a drawing for them, but just in case you are wondering, I will make an attempt to describe it in words.
There are three basic styles for the bikini line: Regular, Playboy and Brazilian.
Regular bikini line laser hair removal
The regular bikini line is pretty much what it sounds like. It includes the hair to the side of the bikini line and the inner thigh. When doing their laser hair removal treatment, I ask patients to wear their bathing suit or panties that have a similar leg-cut to their bathing suit and I remove hair about an inch or so inside the panty line and about two inches or so outside the panty line. I also remove the area of the inner thigh as well. If you are wondering what this area is, imagine lying on your back and bending your right leg so that your right foot touches your left knee. The area that is exposed is your inner thigh. The hair in this area is then removed with the laser. This style, does not remove any hair on the labia and it is the preferred style for patients in the 55+ age group.
Playboy style laser hair removal
In the Playboy style some of the hair on the labia is removed and the hair in the mid section of the bikini area is treated with the laser, just leaving a strip of hair about one inch in width. The inner thigh is also treated in this style as well. The main characteristic here is that the labia area still has a substantial amount of hair left on it. The Playboy style allows the person to wear a very small bathing suit bottom and is requested mostly by patients in their 30s and 40s that do not like the idea of being completely hairless. A lot of times, these patients tend to change to the Brazilian style after the third treatment once they realize how smooth the skin feels and looks.
Brazilian style laser hair removal
In the Brazilian style, all of the hair is removed from the front, the labia and in those that request it, the peri-anal area. In other words, from front to back. Some patients ask for a modified Brazilian, just leaving a strip of hair about ¼ of an inch in front. This style is requested by a lot of patients, but mainly 18-40 years old. No picture necessary for this one.
