Why consider laser treatments for hair removal?

The reasons why patients decide to come for a series of laser hair removal treatment are many. Some come because they are tired of ingrown hairs after waxing. Others come to our office because the constant shaving makes them itchy and they have developed embarrassing discoloration or scarring as a result of scratching. Others do it because their hormones are out of balance and have caused them to grow too much hair in uncommon areas. Athletes do it because they are tired of shaving their entire bodies regularly. I can go on and on as to the many reasons why patients decide to proceed with treatment. As a result, the benefits of laser hair removal are very personal to each patient. Regardless of the reason why patients decide to remove their unwanted hair by laser, there are a few universal benefits as a result of significantly reducing the hair with a laser.

Cosmetic benefits of reducing your hair with laser treatments.

1. Less frequency of shaving means less time to get ready: The recommended series of at least 5 treatments reduces the hair permanently by 70-90%. For example, at the end of the series, most patients shave their underarms once a month instead of everyday or every other day. 2. Fewer ingrown hairs: Since you are reducing the number of hairs by 70-90% after 5 treatments, you also reduce the chances of getting an ingrown hair by 70-90%. This was the reason why I personally removed the hair from my cheeks and my neck.
3. Softer, smoother skin: Most female patients and athletes state that their legs feel stubbly only 2-3 days after shaving and a few more days after waxing. Laser hair removal will give you softer, smoother skin after each treatment. Even the small percentage of hairs that do not go away are lighter in color and thinner.
4. Less discoloration and scarring: As a result of ingrown hairs and irritation or itching after shaving, many patients develop embarrassing discoloration called post inflammatory hyper-pigmentation. Once you permanently reduce the number of hairs, most of the discoloration goes away. Whatever discoloration remains we can treat with lightening creams.

Similarly, a 25-year old young woman went from never kissing anyone because she was afraid that someone would feel the hairs on her chin to being married and feeling more secure about herself.
