5 anti-aging solutions — from skin care to lasers

Every day, patients see Dr. Stover wondering what to do about their skin. Some complain of “wrinkles”, some dislike the “leathery” feel of their skin, some talk about “sagging” and yet others want to get rid of age spots or discoloration. Deciding on the best skin care options for your unique needs can be quite a task. While we make the process simple by offering a complimentary consultation to help determine the right solution for you, it helps to have some basic background information as a starting point. I’ve summarized some of our most popular and effective anti-aging options in order of mildest to most intense.

1. Obagi prescription strength skin care products are the best choice for you if you desire an improvement in your skin health and texture, but are not interested in a more aggressive treatment. Obagi products are clinically proven to improve skin health and appearance. Their Penetrating Therapeutics ™ technology improves the penetration of prescription and cosmetic agents across the skin barrier which minimizes your signs of premature aging, skin damage, hyperpigmentation, acne, sun damage, and symptoms of rosacea.
2. Chemical Peels are the next step in improving your skin’s appearance, and are a wonderful complement to the Obagi system. The Obagi BLUE PEEL (composed of TCA, or Trichloroacetic Acid) enables Dr. Stover to control the depth of the peel to achieve optimal results and is appropriate for all skin types. In this procedure a low concentration of TCA is mixed with a special base prior to its application. Depending upon the condition of your skin, 1-4 coats of the Obagi BLUE PEEL will be applied. Each coat penetrates the skin to a deeper level, so your treatment will be tailored to your individual needs. Each blue peel application removes a thin surface layer of damaged skin, restoring tighter, smoother, clearer skin.
3. Fraxel: Fractional laser resurfacing is very popular with patients at all three of our offices. It treats a fraction of your skin’s surface at a time, leaving the rest of the epidermis intact. Thousands of microscopic laser columns stimulate a natural healing process that works from the inside out, replacing damaged tissue with younger, smoother, healthier skin. Fraxel can be used to effectively treat wrinkles around the eyes, acne and surgical scars, age spots/sun spots, melasma, actinic keratoses, and as an overall skin resurfacing treatment. 4. Thermage: Thermage is a safe, non-invasive, radiofrequency (RF) cosmetic procedure that smooths, tightens and contours your skin for an overall rejuvenated appearance. We can treat your face, eyes, lips, tummy, arms, hands, thighs and buttocks, and even temporarily reduce the appearance of cellulite. On your face, Thermage treats sagging skin, loose jowls, lack of definition in the jaw line, sagging neck skin (“turkey neck”), wrinkles and fine lines, and lack of definition in the lips. Around your eyes, Thermage reduces bags, hooding, rough texture on the eyelids, wrinkles and fine lines, and other contributors to tired looking eyes. Elsewhere on your body, Thermage improves wrinkled, crepey, sagging or bulging skin.
5. Active and Deep FX Laser treatment for skin resurfacing and skin tightening: Our patients are very excited about this treatment because it produces extraordinary results, erasing years and years of sun damage and age spots as well as fine lines and wrinkles, while at the same time stimulating the skin’s deeper layer of collagen to firm the skin and bring back its youthful vigor. Active and Deep FX laser treatment is for you if you want a dramatic improvement in a short period of time. The laser vaporizes skin cells by emitting bursts of light that are absorbed by water in these cells, removing scarred, lined, wrinkled and otherwise imperfect skin. Laser light penetrates to a very precise, controlled depth, making the procedure safe and predictable, while reducing the risk of scarring or pigmentation problems. Usually, only one treatment is needed for full results.
