What to expect during your first wrinkle treatment
Posted on Tue, Jan 25, 2011
Most wrinkle treatments are virtually painless and do not require any recovery time. If this will be your first procedure, it’s normal to feel a little anxious about what to expect. A lot of curiosity is also normal.
I like our patients to be comfortable even before they arrive to be treated so I want to lift the veil on exactly what takes place before, during and after your treatment.
Our team also goes a step further because unlike many other facilities we are able to offer patients the choice of inhalation sedation (commonly known as laughing gas or nitrous oxide). Patients who use nitrous oxide say they feel less anxious, and in some cases even happiness and euphoria during their treatment experience. Please let us know if this might be right for you.
Before your treatment
During your consultation I will take a detailed medical history to determine any medical conditions that may affect your procedure. I will also work with you to determine the best treatment type to provide you with the results you desire.
In the week leading up to your treatment I ask that you avoid any aspirins or non-steroidal anti-inflammatory medication. This is not out of any risk to your health, but to ensure the very best recovery in the shortest amount of time.
During your treatment: relax and let me roll back the years
Unless you request otherwise, I will include a mild pain-killing medicine with your treatment. Many products today include lidocaine to provide a virtually painless experience.
I will then proceed to make a series of very small injections at the treatment site. Possible side effects for Botox and Dysport injections include temporary weakness of nearby muscles. Other side effects may include some temporary swelling and bruising following the procedure, depending on the nature of your treatment and the severity of your wrinkles. Most swelling subsides within 3 to 5 days. Individual results will vary, so I will explain to you exactly what you can expect following your procedure based on your unique treatment plan.
My experience in working with many different skin types, colors and ethnicities has given me a highly specialized understanding of ideal facial proportions, aesthetic balance and how to best achieve your desired results. Many of my patients tell me the procedure is far less frightening than going to the dentist.
After: you resume a completely normal life looking up to ten years younger!
The best part about working with my patients is seeing how people respond after their first experience. Other people will know you look great, but often they won’t be able to put their finger on exactly what has changed.
I recommend that my patients try to refrain from any strenuous exercise, alcoholic beverages or sun bathing for 24 hours after their treatment. It’s not a lot to ask for, and I think those simple steps can dramatically speed up your recovery time!
