This month’s newsletter is (almost) all about your teeth. The health of your teeth can have an impact on your overall health, and you already know that the look of your teeth is important to your social and professional life.

If a tooth is damaged or causing problems for other teeth, removing those teeth will make a big difference to both the health and look of your teeth.

Did you know there are different kinds of wisdom teeth?
Wisdom teeth can often be problematic, causing oral health problems that you may not be aware of. Most wisdom teeth fail to grow straight, which frequently causes them to become impacted or infected.
There are three different classifications of wisdom teeth:
- Erupted – In this case, the entire tooth is exposed, so the tooth extraction is easier because only soft tissue is involved.
- Partial bony – Part of the tooth is exposed, while the other portion is surrounded by bone. The surgery becomes more complicated in this case.
- Full bony – The entire tooth is surrounded by bone, making this type of extraction the most complex.

Dental Implants Replace Missing Teeth
If you have missing teeth as a result of an accident, tooth decay, or medical illness, dental implants can replace the lost teeth and look just like natural teeth. Implants can also be used to replace teeth that are too small or too large so that all teeth are a uniform size. If you have loose dentures, implants can be used to anchor them, avoiding movement, or to even attach them permanently.
What is an implant? It is a titanium post that is inserted into the jawbone in place of the original root, and an artificial tooth is attached to it. Implants can replace as many teeth as necessary, including the entire mouth. Dental implants are the “gold standard” for tooth replacement.

Keeping Your Wisdom Teeth is Not So Wise
It can be very difficult to clean between wisdom teeth. This can lead to decay, impaction, or dental cysts that have significant repercussions. While wisdom teeth will not cause a problem if they are aligned properly, alignment is rare. The mouth usually does not have enough room for these teeth, causing them to come in sideways. Gum tissue then becomes unhealthy, and other teeth are pushed until they are crooked.
Extracting wisdom teeth makes your mouth healthier and more comfortable, and it prevents tooth misalignment, helping you to maintain a beautiful smile. The sooner wisdom teeth are removed, the less complicated the oral surgery will be, so don’t delay. Extraction is done in our offices under IV sedation and a local anesthetic.

After Facial Trauma, Reconstructive Surgery Can Be a God-Send
You may not know that Dr. Stover also performs Facial Reconstruction surgeries for those who have suffered significant injuries to the face. These procedures allow patients to once again lead normal lives, returning the face to a normal appearance. These kinds of injuries frequently occur as a result of car accidents, ATV falls, bar fights, surfing accidents, falls from horses, and other activities.
Facial Reconstruction typically involves placing plates in the face to reposition broken bones. This is often done for the nose, jaw, cheekbones, and the bones around the eyes, restoring the face to a pleasing appearance. Dr. Stover can often perform these surgeries in the office, but more complicated procedures do require hospitalization.
